Future Captain of Portugal - November 10, 2006
Luiz Felipe Scolari, the Portuguese coach has announced today that Cristiano Ronaldo will be named captain of Portugal in the near future. During a conference he has mentioned that Ronaldo has "charm and personality for the job", that he is a fast learner on the field, and has learned how to lead a team.

This is very exciting news for Cristiano Ronaldo fans. Ronaldo has also recently claimed the ASPIRE Young Player Fan Award. Portugal's next match against Kazakhstan is scheduled for the 15th of November where Nuno Gomes will still be the captain for Portugal.


Cristiano qualifies for Fifa Award - October 12, 2006
Cristiano Ronaldo, along with teammate Wayne Rooney, has qualified as the one of the 30 soccer players that are eligible to be awarded Fifa World Player of the Year. The award will be given to the top player on December 18th, after all head coaches have cast their votes.

2005 Fifa World Player of the Year went to Ronaldinho Gaucho. This year, there are talks that Fabio Cannavaro or Thierry Henry are likely candidates to receive the award. Only a matter of time before we find out for ourselves.


Cristiano Ronaldo Scores Twices - October 8, 2006
Ronaldo scored twice in Portugal's Euro 2008 Group A qualifier against Azerbaijan closing the game in a 3-0 win for Portugal. Cristiano Ronaldo first scored 25 minutes into the match against goalkeeper Farhad Veliyev, from a pass by Deco. He scored his second goal 63 minutes into the match he headed in a cross from the right by Simao Sabrosa.

After the game, Cristiano Ronaldo hoped his team would be in good shape to face Poland on Wednesday. He was looking forward to it, mentioning that it will be a difficult game.
